In these times of austerity, businesses know that they have to think really creatively about saving money in every area of their business. Gone are the times of big spending – every cent counts these days, and wherever there are savings to be made, they must be made. Office stationery is a big bill for every company in the land, and it’s a necessary expense. However, there are cost savings to be made, so if you are in charge of ordering your company’s office equipment then you’ll benefit from reading our tips on how to save money:
Choose a Dedicated Company
If you place your loyalty with one company for all of your office supplies, you will find that they can offer you some great incentives. Speak to a few companies and figure out who offers the best deal. When you have found the right supplier for you, negotiate your terms and ask if there is a discount scheme that you can take advantage of. They will be hungry for your business, so you will be negotiating from a position of power. Tell them how much you plan to spend every month, and ask for other benefits such as free delivery, or a discount for fast payment.
Buy in Bulk
To save money, you need to be organised. This means putting in an order every month that covers everything you need. Some people even just order quarterly. Buying in bulk may seem scary, but as long as you have the storage space you will save money. Suppliers will offer price breaks for large purchases, so if you know you’re going to use 100 reams of paper in a month for example, order it in one go. The prices will be far more favourable. Just keep an eye on stocks and make sure the next order is placed in plenty of time.
Too many pieces of office equipment are cast away when they could be recycled. Some companies offer benefit schemes for recycling toner cartridges for example. Having a system where all scrap paper is saved and reused is also a very good idea – you will be amazed at how much more slowly you work through your stocks. Make all of your staff aware of the areas that they could save the company money by being less wasteful. Not only will you be saving yourselves money, you will also be reducing your company’s carbon footprint, and anything that makes you kinder to the environment has to be a good thing.
Very often you can find huge cost savings if you buy online. When buying larger items such as office furniture or filing cabinets, make sure you shop around for the best deal.
Every office needs a good supply of stationery, but in order to keep costs down you need to make sure that you are getting the best deal for your money. Make sure the stationery cupboard is locked too – you’d be amazed at how many pens and other office bits and pieces find their way to your employees’ houses!
